1. What are these Vapor-Liquid Separator Programs?
These applications size/rate  horizontal and vertical vapor-liquid separators based on a proven set of rules, and sound chemical engineering fundamentals. Inlet and vapor outlet nozzles are sized, too. The apps are easy to use; simple, quick, and reliable.

  2. How to use them?
Navigate the text fields with the [Tab] key or the mouse. Using the [Enter] key will slow your work considerably. Enter all required fields, then press the Size Vessel button. Be sure that you enter the desired liquid holdup value. The apps assume that this is the total liquid holdup from low level to high level, including allowance for alarms, trips, etc. If you have an application where water settling is required, be sure to include the minimum volume required to affect the water settling.

Save the results (html) to your computer for later use to prepare a process datasheet for the separator.

  3. The Programs

    Horizontal Separator Rating:
Select a process separator or flare KO drum from the drop-down list. Select the configuration from the list provided, too.  Be sure to enter all the details; demister, boot, levels, nozzles, etc.

To be certain that everything calculates, and you have the correct solution, press the Rate Vessel button  when all your entry is complete.  Look for any warnings that are provided on the form.

Water decanting parameters are based on a 125 micron diameter water droplet. Use your criteria for water settling.

    Vertical Separator:
Select no demister or demister type from the drop-down list. You must input the operating pressure, too. The mesh demisters are derated for high pressure and low pressure operation.

To be certain that everything calculates, and you have the correct solution, press the Size Vessel button  when all your entry is complete.

    Liquid Drum:
Enter the appropriate parameters. The program will select the minimum cost vessel based on weight. You can increment the vessel diameter by 6-inch increments using the +- buttons provided. Note that the vessel is no longer the lowest cost when you do this.

Use this program if you have a vertical separator whose size is determined by the liquid holding capacity.
